Detroit Regional Chamber Hosts 5 Minute Networking

MichiganBusinessHub.com

The 5 Minutes really go by fast and you have to share that time with the person sitting across from you, so you might only get 2 minutes or so. Nevertheless I was really happy with the event and have been in contact with the prospects I met there. I did not like the fact that some businesses had two representatives from the same company at the event. It just seemed like overkill – the event should be held to only one person per company.

I first thought that the chamber had come up with the 5 Minute Networking® program, but turns out that 5 Minute Networking® is an actual company that was founded by sister-duo Sonia English and Melissa English in 2004. The idea was sparked by the well known “speed dating” events; one of the sisters would bring handfuls of leads for the other sisters’ Web design business. While the other would attend conventional networking events with the feeling that something was missing. So the two put their heads together and came up with 5 Minute Networking® and have not looked back.

5 Minute Networking® gives an individual the opportunity to meet one-on-one in five-minute increments, resulting in a fast paced, stimulating and enormously successful professional networking experience. The system is a patent-pending Event Facilitation Software. The software maximizes the results for event participants and minimizes the work involved in planning and facilitating events. 5 Minute Networking® events are held at conferences, trade shows, monthly mixers, business networking, corporate team building, fundraising and social networking events.

Both sisters were nominated for 2005, 2006 and 2007 Business Woman of the Year, 2006 and 2007 Entrepreneur of the Year, awards presented by the Orange County Business Journal. 5 Minute Networking® has also been nominated for 2005 and 2006 Family Owned Business of the Year.

The next 5 Minute Networking® event will be sponsored by the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce on April 18 at the IKEA in Canton Michigan – from 8 am to 10:30 am. The cost is $35 for Chamber members and $55 for non-members. You can register at the Chamber Events page.
